FAQ

Dansville Gliders FAQ’s:

  1. Typically, the season starts the first week of June and ends August 23 this year.
  2. The season is roughly 40 games long, all within the span of about 50-60 days. When there isn’t a game scheduled, there may be practice.  There really is no time for the players to take on a job for the season.
  3. Players usually plan to arrive during the last weekend of May this year, allowing for a few days of practice before the season starts.  We have scheduled uniform handout, 1st practice and Host Family/player dinner all on Sunday, June 1st.
  4. Dansville is located in Western New York, about 45 miles south of Rochester in Livingston County, which is in the heart of the New York Finger Lakes area.  We are a small community with about 5000 residents.
  5. Home games are played at the Village-owned ballfield in Babcock Park.  There is no admission to home games.  There is a concession stand for light snacks during the games.  There are no lights on our field, so all games are played during daylight hours.
  6. Visit NYCBL.COM to view games online or visit the Gliders website at glidersbaseball.com.
  7. Please visit https://www.glidersbaseball.com/ for schedule, game updates and other information.
  8. Please see  https://www.visitlivco.com/  for more information on the area—including restaurants and lodging in the local area.
  9. There are a variety of Airbnb’s in town, along with hotels in Geneseo (20 miles) and Mt Morris (15 miles) for family visits.  There are also a few local restaurants, along with fast-food restaurants in the Dansville area.
  10. The Gliders provide the following:  jerseys, warmups, shorts, game socks, belts, hats, and pants.  Pants and shirts will be needed for practice.
  11. The players will have access to a local gym, with 24-hour access—Fueled Fitness.
  12. Players are being bused to away games on a school bus.  All games, except for 1 doubleheader are within an hour to hour/half ride.  Transportation to the doubleheader in Watertown, NY will be on a coach bus.
  13. The Gliders play the following teams:
    • Hornell (20 miles away)
    • Horseheads (60 miles away)
    • Genesee Rapids (Houghton, NY 35 miles away)
    • Olean (70 miles away)
    • Salamanca (90 miles away)
    • Rochester (50 miles away)
    • Watertown (150 miles away)
  14. We try to notify players sometime in Mid-May as to who their Host Family is.  We try to get this information out as soon as possible, however, sometimes this is difficult.
  15. We tell Host Families that they need to supply a bed, provide kitchen privileges and use of washing machine/dryer.
  • Each Host Family may be different—some have meals prepared each night, others do not.  This is something each player and Host Family will work out.
  • We also tell Host Families that communication between players and Host Families is very important.  The player is a guest in a Host Family house and is expected to live by the rules of the Host Family.
  • If there are roommate requests, we will do our best to accommodate those requests, however, that is subject to Host Families and how much room they have.
  • Some players bring a vehicle, others do not.  We do our best to make local travel arrangements between the players with vehicles and the players without.
  • Players will need money for daily expenses—again, meals get worked out between player and Host Family.  It seems like the players are hungry all the time!!  Miscellaneous snacks, ice cream, vehicle fuel, etc., is the responsibility of the player.
  • After away games, the Gliders team provides a light snack for the players, usually a sub, wrap, pizza, etc.
  • The Gliders Team works to arrange a few “team outings” each season—some are pool parties with food, others are dinners at local restaurants.  These occur 4-5 times during the season.
  • The Gliders Team holds a Host Family Dinner with all the players, coaches, and Host Families a few days before the season begins as an introduction to Team Representatives, players, and Host Families.  This dinner is sponsored by the local American Legion Post.
